Legislative Research, Inc. has been a leader in providing legislative history research since its founding in 1983. While we have specialized in California research, we have also acquired substantial expertise in identifying and obtaining the key legislative history materials generated during a bill’s enactment from many other states as well.  Some jurisdictions, unfortunately, make a point of not preserving their legislative history.

We first provide a complimentary search for an in-state research firm because of the obvious advantages to the client of having a local contact.  If none exist, we fill the need.  We begin by identifying the act which added the terms of interest which is not always an easy task because many of the published code annotations are often less than thorough.  If research materials are available on the Internet, we either show the client how to obtain them, or we assemble them ourselves if it is more convenient.  We also contact the appropriate state entities which house the primary legislative records such as bill versions, legislative analyses and bill files, governor records, etc., and make arrangements for copies to be transmitted in the most expedited manner possible.

Research here is billed hourly according to the following schedule, along with the specified additional charges.  A minimum authorization of 8 hours per bill is required.

Standard Digital Report

• $0.30 per page for copies and scanning

Deluxe Digital Report

• $0.30 per page for copies and scanning
• $10 per part for an added word-search feature 80-100% accurate.  Note: there will be multiple parts to the report if it is over 500 pages long

Hardcopy Report

• $0.25 per page for copies
• Binder costs (range between $3.46 and $10.63, depending upon size)
• Assembly charge, $25 per binder (some bills have multiple binders)
• Shipping costs: FedEx Overnight

Note: Orders placed by 10:00 am trigger that same day for inclusion in the project period.  Weekends and State Holidays are not included.
